01The program

A Program Under Medical Oversight

The weight management program on the Gold Coast is being developed around clinical assessment and relevant medical information. Final inclusions and clinician involvement are still being confirmed. Entry follows the weight management assessment rather than preceding it, because what the program contains depends on what that assessment finds. Call 1300 068 386 to enquire.

02What's included

What the Program Includes

The program brings together several disciplines rather than a single approach.

  • 01

    Dietetic sessions

Individual assessment and planning with an accredited practising dietitian. This is built around your circumstances rather than issued as a standard plan.

  • 02

    Supervised exercise

Exercise physiology sessions prescribed from tested current capacity. Any physical limitations identified at assessment are built into the prescription.

  • 03

    Clinical measurement

Weight, waist circumference and relevant pathology tracked at set intervals. Measurements are recorded for comparison rather than as targets.

  • 04

    GP oversight

Your GP retains clinical responsibility and reviews progress at agreed points. Any medical component is managed through consultation.

03Assessment

How Assessment Determines What the Program Contains

No two versions of this program are identical, because the assessment that precedes it commonly identifies different contributing factors. Your GP reviews medical history, medications, pathology and any conditions affecting weight before the program is considered. The dietitian then assesses current intake, eating patterns and practical constraints, while the exercise physiologist tests current physical capacity and identifies any limitations. Bringing a few days of food records and a complete list of medications and supplements gives both practitioners a more accurate starting point. From those assessments, the practitioners involved set out what the program would include, at what frequency and over what period. Review points are scheduled at the outset rather than arranged later.

FAQs

Assessment identifies contributing factors, including conditions and medications affecting weight, which determine whether a program is appropriate and what it should contain. Beginning without it risks addressing the wrong thing.

Yes, and both are commonly involved where nutrition and physical activity are each relevant. The practitioners coordinate through the shared management plan.
