Reproductive Health on the Gold Coast

01The approach

The Consultations That Don't Fit a Standard Appointment

Reproductive health covers a wide territory, including cycle concerns, contraception review, symptoms that have been present for a while, and questions people have been meaning to ask for years. At Nuevo Medical, reproductive health on the Gold Coast is addressed in consultations with time allowed for the history, because much of this territory depends on detail that a short appointment doesn't capture. Pathology and pelvic ultrasound are available within our Bundall centre. Where the discussion relates to conceiving, preconception care covers that ground specifically. Call 1300 068 386 to enquire.

02What's covered

What These Consultations Cover

The scope is broad, and these are the areas most commonly raised.

  • 01

    Cycle concerns

Irregularity, changes in pattern, heavy or painful periods. Assessment usually combines history, examination and investigation rather than relying on any one.

  • 02

    Contraception review

Discussion of current arrangements and available options. This includes reviewing whether an existing method remains appropriate as circumstances change.

  • 03

    Persistent symptoms

Pelvic pain, discomfort or other symptoms that have continued over time. Investigation is directed by what the history suggests.

  • 04

    Referral where needed

Onward referral to gynaecology or another service where appropriate. We maintain relationships with external specialists across the relevant fields.

03Preparation

Preparing for a Reproductive Health Consultation

These consultations rely heavily on history, so some preparation makes them more productive. Your practitioner will ask about cycle length, regularity and any change over time, the nature and timing of any symptoms, contraception history, previous pregnancies, surgical history and current medications. Where a cycle pattern is relevant, having dates recorded, even approximately, is more useful than an estimate given from memory in the room. Bringing previous test results or imaging reports also helps, particularly where they were arranged elsewhere. Examination is discussed and undertaken with your consent, and investigation is arranged where the history indicates it. Findings are reviewed at a follow-up appointment, where your practitioner explains what they show and what options exist, including referral where that's appropriate.

04Questions

FAQs

It covers cycle concerns, contraception, pelvic symptoms, sexual health and related questions, assessed through history, examination and investigation. Referral to gynaecology or another service follows where the findings warrant it.

A practitioner arranges imaging when the history and examination raise a question it can answer, rather than as a routine part of every consultation. What the scan is looking for is explained at the time it's ordered.

These consultations typically need more time than a standard appointment because the history is detailed. It's worth mentioning the reason for the visit when booking so adequate time is allocated.
